“Often times [Archimedes’] servants got him agaunst his will to the bathes, to washe and annoynt him: and yet being there he would ever be drawing out of the Geometricall figures, even in the very imbers of the chimney. And while they were anointing him with oyles and sweet savors, with his finger he did draw lines upon his naked body: so farre was he taken from himself, and brought into an extasy or trauns, with the delite he had in the study of Geometry, and truely ravished with the love of the Muses.”
